The one you’ve all been waiting for – The 270 Freestanding LED Awning by Darche covers all grounds with new heavy-duty strength.
Boasting X-tube aluminium alloy hardware in the rafter arms, backing plate, and hinges, this awning holds its ground with ultimate outback durability. A robust 230gsm ripstop polycotton canvas is tough against the outdoor elements, featuring a 3000mm waterhead rating and additional height to promote water run-off in wetter weather.
Spanning across 11.5 square metres of space and withstanding wind speeds of up to 30km/hour without poles or pegs, a fully-enclosed transit cover and two-piece backing plate also maximises weather resistance – so you can spread these wings through wind, rain, and shine. Plus, step up your setup by switching it up, thanks to the height-adjustable brackets to suit a wide range, while dimmable white and amber LED lighting integrated on four rafter arms offer after-dark dynamics!

In our rigorous testing, the Eclipse 270 Freestanding LED Awning showcased its strength by holding up until 50km/hr on its initial trial, and it withstood 55km/hr winds in the next round of testing after being repaired. The wind meter we employed for our testing was the Omega OM-CP-WIND101A wind speed data logger system, calibrated using data from the Australian Bureau of Meteorology and capable of recording wind speeds every second. The Eclipse 270 Freestanding LED Awning further demonstrated its robustness by holding strong up to wind speeds of 90km/hr with the poles down and securely pegged. The remarkable part is that we were able to restore it to its full functionality post-testing. Backing up this robustness are specifically-engineered break points within the awning so in the case of failure, the awning will do so in a manner that avoids damage to your vehicle and facilitates simple repairs.
Based on results and observations gained over the wind testing period, the Eclipse 270 Freestanding LED Awning is rated to 25-30km/hr winds in freestanding mode. However, our recommendation is that it you always deploy the included poles and tie down your awning properly using pegs and guy ropes as Mother Nature is unpredictable and we want to protect your investment.
Area of Shelter – 11.5m2. With walls fitted, the setup covers approx. 20.5 m2 depending on the height of the vehicle.
How is it different from other 270° awnings – The Eclipse 270° Awning hinges from both ends, it also has a class-leading larger coverage area as the front span runs along the front of the vehicle, and the X-tube frame provides maximum strength.
What feature upgrades are in the new freestanding version – The canopy construct has been upgraded to 320gsm polycotton canvas. The new aluminium hinge system and X-tube tube alloy rafters allow for an overall increase in strength, and the additional of LED lights that fold with the canopy to light up your space.
Can walls be used as extendable awnings? – Yes, both front walls are designed to be used as additional extendible awnings (poles not included).
Roof Rack mounting – Mounting brackets are included and will accommodate most commercially available steel basket and flat rack set ups. (Including TJM, ARB etc.). Mounting hardware for Whisper and Rhino bars will be available for purchase separately.
Materials – The canvas is a Proofed poly cotton ripstop canvas as are the walls. The frame is Alloy with steel hardware. The transit cover is made of laminated 600gsm PVC.
Does it need to be pegged down with guy ropes? – When setting the awning up it will free stand, but it is best to be set up anchored to the ground at all times. Use all the anchor points and guy ropes provided and peg to the ground. The awning also has anchor points to create water gutters to drain surface water in the rain.
How does it perform in a strong wind? – This is the heavier duty version so it will handle stronger winds than others, however exercise caution and be alert to prevailing winds, and on strong windy days we suggest to use the upright poles provided with guy ropes, or pack away your awning.
Optional walls and awning extensions – Walls are sold separately.
How many people are required to set up? – One person. The Eclipse 270° Awning is designed as a simple 1 person set up and pack down & inclement weather may require the assistance of another person.
What poles are included – 3 x pivoting alloy telescopic poles are included and purposely fitted under awning arms for easy access and stowing. Each rafter has a purpose drilled hole for additional spigot style poles if your set up requires or in case of an emergency. An additional 3 poles are included in a separate carry bag.
Water drainage – Included guy ropes need to be fixed between rafters to create a water runoff valley. You can see an example of this in the YouTube video.
